 A weather radio is equipped to receive the signal required to pick up official transmissions from NOAA and NWR.   NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) provides Weather Radio All Hazards (NWR) as a public service to the continental United States and its territories.  NWR is a nationwide network of radio stations that broadcast continuous weather information, including official warnings, watches, and forecasts, directly from the National Weather Service 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

NWR works with the FCC Emergency Alert system to provide comprehensive weather and emergency information.  This includes natural disasters, environmental issues such as chemical spills, and public safety information, such as Amber Alerts or 911 telephone service outages.
